Winter wasn’t exactly ideal for filming this year. But luckily bike season is upon us, and Chris and I had the opportunity to get out for the day and dust off the cobwebs. We hope to get out and do some more filming this summer biking and wakeboarding. So hopefully means more to come.
Yesterday King 5 New Day NW had Ingrid Backstrom and I onto the show to talk about the new Warren Miller film “No Turning Back” It was really fun to hang see Ingrid again and be able to talk about our segments. You can watch our entire interview by following the link below.
Next stop is Wisconsin for the film.
This post is going to be very easy. I woke up, walked to heli, Flew to Mt. Olympus and skied big lines, it was awesome… The end.
Tomorrow is the last day of the trip, we are going to try and go out with a bang.
Today was the most exciting adventure of the trip, both good and bad. Morning started off great with us waking up to blue bird skies and Mt. Olympus in the background. It was finally go time for the helicopter skiing part of this trip. The lift up to Olympus is only about 10 minutes, so we were up in the mountains in no time. It was really refreshing to see what the terrain had to offer and what the conditions would be like. We immediately found some decent size lines we wanted to ski. But it turns out the winds had hit the mountain hard the couple days before. So it wasn’t going to be waste deep pow, but at least it was still soft and buttery smooth. Josh and I tee’d up two pretty sweet lines early and were pretty stoked on what we had. On our third lift back up is when shit kind of hit the fan for me… We were scoping out a line Josh had picked out from the top, when we decided we need to move down the ridge a bit further. I started a kick turn and when I was bringing my other ski around the, cornice gave way. It broke off directly under my feet, and at first I thought I was going to be able to keep my balance and stay on. But it broke down to rocks and I fell about 5 ft backwards off a cliff following the cornice. The SUV sized cornice then triggered a 2-3ft fracture that propageted the length of the ridge. I was lucky in that there was no snow following me, so I was able to spin myself around and set an edge before reaching the cliff ban below. Needless to say that got the blood pumping this morning. The slide went pretty large, but I will let the photos show that. But hey can’t let something like that slow you down, just need to learn and move on. We finished up the day getting some really cool ski shots. The plan is to get up early again tomorrow and get back after it!
We have been traveling so much from village to village I honestly forgot what day we are on. All I do know is that we finally got out on the hill and got some really good shots. We went up to one of the local ski hills and built a jump for a day, and was able to hit it a couple times. It was really fun to catch some air and get our legs back under us. Now we are back in the spot where the heli is, and after a down day it is looking like we will FOR SURE! fly tomorrow (thats a promise from the heli pilot). I am more then excited to finally get out on Mt. Olympus and shred some Greek God pow! I will let the photos do the talking and kind of explain the last couple of days.
Was really looking promising this morning when we woke but turns out the clouds came back in. We sent the heli up to check out the zones but they had to turn around and come back to camp. So we decided to go check out this castle up on the foothills. We showed up to find lots of goats running around and an awesome local goat herder with them. He were able to hang out and check out the castle for a bit, now we are packing up and getting ready for a big move tomorrow to new location.
Tomorrow we ski!!!
Well woke up this morning to some socked in weather here, so looked like it was going to be another down day. I was ok with that, since I didn’t have anything to use as it was. We got a call from the airport that our bags should be in around 3. So to burn some time we went and checked out the local market. All the locals were super nice and when you have a camera crew with you they all want to know whats going on. It was fun to hang out buy some stuff and meet the locals. Next was off to hopefully get the rest of our bags… and low and behold we got them! so now we can finally get started. Once we got our bags we decided to go and check out the city night life. Walked the boardwalk checked out some really cool bars and landmarks. Its been snowing up in the mountains so hopefully it clears enough to get up and finally ski tomorrow.
